How do I replace or clean the aerator on my tap?
Aerators regulate water flow and prevent splashing. Over time, debris or limescale can restrict flow or cause uneven spray. If you are experiencing a reduced or uneven water flow, a distorted spray pattern or drips from the tip of the spout, the following steps can help resolve the issue:
- Unscrew the aerator from the spout tip (use a soft cloth or aerator key).
- Rinse the mesh under running water.
- For heavy limescale, soak in white vinegar for 30 minutes.
- If damaged or blocked, replace with a new aerator of the same size and thread.
- Refit and hand-tighten — do not overtighten.
Tip:
If you do not have an aerator key, the new aerator can be turned upside down and used as a key.
