My shower enclosure is leaking at the base - how can I fix it?
Leaks at the base of a shower enclosure are usually caused by poor silicone sealing or water tracking under the enclosure frame. If you are experiencing water escaping beneath the frame, leaks at the corners or have mouldy/perished silicone, this can be fixed by taking the following steps:
- Dry the area and inspect all joints where the frame meets the tray.
- Remove any cracked or mouldy silicone with a plastic scraper.
- Clean thoroughly and let dry.
- Apply a continuous bead of high-quality silicone sealant along the outside edge only (never inside the enclosure).
- Smooth the bead with a finishing tool.
- Allow 24 hours before using the shower.
Tip: Always seal externally only; sealing internally can trap water and cause leaks elsewhere.
Silicone sealant and finishing tools are available through our authorised merchants.
