The diverter on my shower valve isn’t switching water between outlets — what can I do?
The diverter controls which outlet the water flows from. If the diverter is stuck between settings, you have water flowing from multiple outlets at once, or there is a reduced flow from on outlet, the diverter cartridge may need cleaning or replacing. The following steps will help to resolve the issue:
- Turn off the water supply.
- Remove the handles, trim plate and extract the diverter cartridge. Instructions for your product can be found by searching for the relevant product and navigating to the 'Downloads' tab on the product page.
- Check the cartridge for any scale or debris build up
- Soak in descaler (e.g. white vinegar) for 30 minutes and then wash through with water.
- Return the diverter cartridge to the valve and replace the handles and trim kit.
- Reassemble and test by switching between outlets.
- Replace the diverter if worn or cracked.
Tip: Do not force a stiff diverter — doing so may damage the internal spindle.
If you need to replace the diverter cartridge, use only genuine Crosswater parts as others may not align correctly and can invalidate your warranty. Spare diverter cartridges can on our official spares website. Ensure compatibility by matching the product image or part code.
